Introduction to the

Children With AIDS Project of America

Thank you for your concern for Children with AIDS.

The number of children and teens that will be affected with this horrible disease is estimated to be 10,000 to 20,000 for the next couple of years. It is estimated there will be over 425,000 infants born exposed to drugs in 1995 alone and we anticipate a significant number will require foster or adoptive families.

An immediate new need is assisting HIV infected parents find adoptive parents for their healthy and/or HIV infected children prior to the parents death. These children have been named, AIDS Orphans by the media and their numbers are expected to be over 125,000 by the year 2000.

Our personal story about our trials and tribulations in adopting two infants that were abandoned at birth and tested HIV antibody positive was reported in an article titled "One Couples Crusade For Children" which appeared in Good Housekeeping Magazine.

Enclosed you will find some general information pertaining to CWA which includes a booklet titled "Beginners Guide To Adoption" provided by Wendy's International. Dave Thomas, Wendy's founder, has served as national spokesperson for adoption for several years focusing on raising adoption awareness across the country. He does this because he was adopted.

If you desire to consider adoption, foster parenting or providing respite services for these children and/or their families, please complete and return the enclosed "Family Registration Form." If you want to volunteer your services or help in any other way, please complete the "Request For Information."

You may also visit our "Gift Shop" where you can purchase items such as: T-Shirts , AIDS Educational Items and a wonderful Cookbook.
In our presentation, you will also find an article that appeared in TIME Magazine titled "When AIDS Strikes Parents" as well as an article that appeared in J.A.M.A., the Journal of the American Medical Association, titled "The Silent Legacy of AIDS... Children Who Survive Their Parents and Siblings."

We've enclosed "Come Sit By Me" which presents a colorful, realistic approach to teach children about this subject and there is a handy section in the back of the book for parents, providing them with helpful and timely information regarding AIDS and HIV.

There is an order form for ordering gifts and "Come Sit By Me." We have also included a resource list of other WEB Sites that will provide you more information pertaining to AIDS and Adoption.

Please feel free to contact us by EMAIL anytime. If you have any questions regarding our organization and services, please call (480) 774-9718.
